MANGROVE: The mangrove is considered a coastal ecosystem transition between the terrestrial and marine environments. Characteristic of tropical and subtropical regions. It is subject to tidal regime, dominated by typical plant species, which are associated with other plant and animal components.
The mangrove ecosystem is an association of bays, river mouths, lagoons and coastal recesses where gather river waters and the ocean, or directly exposed to the shoreline. The vegetation, contrary to what happens on the sandy beaches and dunes, settles in mud substrates recent formation of small slope, in the daily action of saltwater tides or at least brackish.
The biological richness of the coastal ecosystems makes these areas as the largest natural “nurseries”for many species growing into this environment, such as for fish and other animals that migrate to coastal areas for at least one phase of the cycle of their life.
Itacaré is known for its diversity of beaches that nature lovers will appreciate. It is a paradise for surfing and ecotourism. Itacaré meets nature, adventure, fun and sun all year. The municipality is located in an Area of Environmental Protection, heritage of Unesco. Many rivers, trails, beaches and waterfalls, which allow you to practice numerous sports, including rafting, rappelling, tree climbing, zip lining and hiking.
Who are looking for excitement, the nightlife of the city is quite trendy. Numerous of bars, restaurants and cafes encourage tourists with music ranging from jazz to forró, in addition to electronic or reggae music. IL
From July to November, it is possible to see humpback whales, who choose the region to play.
How to get to Itacaré
Itacaré is located in the BA-001 highway, between Sierra Grande and Camamu, about 70 km from Ilheus where is the nearest airport.
The BR-101 is the main access for those coming from south Brazil. For those coming from the northern region the best access is by the BA-001.
In general, coming from Salvador and Ilheus the roads are in good condition and well signposted, however, attention must be paid towards many curves and small communities make up the road scenario, so the importance of reducing speed.
