LOCATED IN THE MAMIRAUÁ RESERVE:
Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve is a protected area by the state of Amazon (AM), with an extension of 1.124.000 ha, located between Solimões, Auti-Paraná and Japurá rivers. It’s the largest protected flooded forest in the world. Uakari Floating Lodge
Eight communities from the reserve act managing the Uakari lodge, the contractors, the employees and the salespeople. Uacari (or Uakari) Lodge’s operation is a performance line of Mamirauá Institute’s community-based tourism program.
FOCUSED ON SUSTAINABILITY:
All facilities are sustainable. The energy is form the sun. The rain is collected, kept and reused. The effluents are treated before coming back to the river. The tiles are ecological, made of recycled PET from plastic bottles. Uakari Floating Lodge
FULL LODGE SERVICES:
In total, there are 10 rooms with the capacity of 24 guests. The Lodge has a central floating area with a small deck, a kitchen, a restaurant, a bar, a video room and a library.
About the Amazon
In the Mamiraua Reserve it is possible to admire concentrations of Amazonian fauna never before recorded. This is the Amazon of long ago. Thousands of caiman can be easily observed in the dry season along with a concentrations of up to 15,000 cormorants and herons are seen fishing in the lakes. In the trees, numerous groups of monkeys share the branches with sloths and with beautiful bromeliads and orchids. River dolphins, legendary creatures in the flooded forest, enchant all who see them. Mamirauá is also home to approximately 400 species of bird and at least 45 species of mammal.
One of the strangest is probably the White Uacari Cacajao calvus, a monkey of 4 kilos which feeds almost only on the seeds of unripe fruits. Uacaris live in bands of up to 50 individuals, and travel many kilometers every day, in search of their favourite foods.
Room with two, three or four comfortable beds, ceiling fan and private bathroom. Decorated with local handicrafts.
